Palm Beach, Fla. – Andrew Duffell, President and CEO of the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University, has been selected as a winner in the economic development profession’s 40 Under 40 Awards, the only award of its kind recognizing young talent in the economic development profession.

A five-member selection committee chose the winners from a pool of more than 157 candidates based on their exceptional contributions to the economic development industry. The award’s program was managed by Development Counsellors International (DCI), a New York-based firm that specializes in economic development marketing.

“Andrew has been very successful in recruiting companies to the Research Park and continues to bring a positive impact to technology-based economic development throughout South Florida,” said Bruce Rosetto, Chairman of the Research Park’s governing authority. “He embraced the vision of the Research Park and has taken the lessons learned during its 30-year history to increase awareness and strengthen brand recognition, while sharpening its focus to transition to a modern business model where start-ups and established companies are working together in a convergence of technology, science and entrepreneurship. Through his leadership, the Research Park is exceeding its goals and is making a difference in the community.”

Prior to his position at the Research Park, Andrew was Senior Vice President for Business Recruitment, Retention and Expansion at the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County. He oversaw the recruitment and expansion of 96 companies in Palm Beach County, which add approximately $3 billion in economic output to the region annually, translating into more than 8,500 jobs in 1.9 million square feet of commercial and office real estate. He has successfully structured over $87 million in incentives for international relocations to Palm Beach County. Due in part to his efforts, South Florida is now home to Max Planck Florida Institute, one of the most revered bioscience research institutes in the world.

Andrew began his U.S. economic development career with the North of England Inward Investment Agency where he assisted U.S. companies with expansion into European markets.

DCI’s 40 Under 40 award was designed to discover the economic development profession’s rising stars.

“The people chosen by the selection committee represent a bright future for the economic development world,” said Andy Levine, president of DCI. “They are a new breed of results-driven place makers. We’re very pleased to see Andrew Duffell’s name among the winners.”

DCI officially announced the winners last night at an awards reception during the International Economic Development Council Leadership Summit in Palm Beach and will feature an in-depth profile of each on its website during 2015.
