As the “Cracking the Code to Find Tech Talent” event is arriving, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight some student groups from the region that are going to be competing in the finals of an international technology competition!

The Association of Information Systems (AIS) Student Chapters program is about to hold its annual Student Chapters Leadership Conference and Competition Finals on April 1-3.  The conference, hosted this year by Indiana University, is an opportunity for students of Information Systems to interact with industry leaders from companies such as SAP, IBM, Merck and HP as well as to sharpen their skills in areas such as design thinking.

The conference also hosts the finals for the AIS Student Chapter Competitions where the student teams that are selected as the top teams in the preliminary rounds of their respective competitions go to compete for top honors in competitions such as:

  • The IBM Bluemix Bright ICT Competition – A competition where students are challenged to create a solution to make the Internet a safer place using the IBM Bluemix platform.
  • The Merck Analytics Challenge – In this competition, students create data visualizations in order to guide the solutions to actual corporate problems being faced by companies such as Merck and QVC.
  • The SAP ERPSim Competition – This competition requires students to leverage SAP Business Suite on HANA, SAP Lumira and SAP Predictive Analytics, participants have to make business decisions to ensure the profitability of a simulated business.
  • The IS Security Case Competition – The creation of a HIPPA compliant security policy is the focus of this competition where students must not only create the policy, but must also make a convincing argument to a group of executives to adopt it.

In addition to student teams from all over the United States and from as far away as Poland, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, this year’s competitions have a strong local flavor as three teams from South Florida universities will be competing in the final rounds. Florida International University will be sending a team to compete in the Merck Analytics Challenge and Nova Southeastern University will be sending two teams, one in the IS Security Case Competition and one in the SAP ERPSim Competition.

These great student accomplishments truly highlight the quality of our universities and the tech talent that is available right here in South Florida. All of us at the SFTA wish these teams the best of luck as they go for the gold in the AIS Student Chapter Competitions.  In fact, some of them will be in attendance at the “Cracking the Code to Find Tech Talent” event, so if you’re in the market for quality interns you need look no further than this great event on 3/24 at Citrix!
