In December, SFTA Board members Tammy Kennedy and James Parrish served as judges for the inaugural Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) Florida Business Plan Finals.  The VEI is a part of the world’s largest simulated economy of student businesses.  The program boasts over 500 student businesses that operate in 380 high schools across the United States.  In this program, over 12,000 students spend part of their school day participating in the program that involves them operating businesses to buy and sell products and services that are purchased using virtual currency in a virtual marketplace comprised of 7,500 simulated companies spread across 43 countries.

The VEI Florida Business Plan Finals is provides local students with an opportunity to highlight their business expertise through written business plans and oral presentations.  The participants in the the inaugural competition included three virtual enterprises from South Florida and two from the Tampa area:

  • Next Level Technology Inc. from Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior HS (Hialeah)
  • Focal Point Inc. from JP Taravella HS (Coral Springs)
  • Travel Lifestyle, LLC from Piper HS (Sunrise)
  • ENvitalize from Thomas Jefferson HS (Tampa)
  • Trojan Wall from Thomas Jefferson HS (Tampa)

All of the student teams did an incredible job presenting their enterprises both through their written reports and their presentations, however there could only be one winning team and that was Focal Point Inc. from JP Taravella HS in Sunrise, FL.  Focal Point Inc provided a novel way for VEI companies to search the VEI Directory and allowed companies a more effective way to present their products and services to the other virtual enterprises in the economy.  As a result of their win in the VEI Florida Business Plan Finals, Focal Point Inc. will represent Florida in the 2016 National Business Plan Competition to take place on April 17th in New York at LIU Brooklyn.

We at the SFTA would like to congratulate all of the student enterprises and wish Focal Point Inc. the best of luck as they “go for the gold” in New York!
